Wednesday racing form and tips at Warwick Farm, May 17

Midweek tips

FIELDS at the midweek level have improved significantly in Sydney throughout the early winter weeks and punters get another quality card to bet on this Wednesday at Warwick Farm.

The seven-race card features some talented thoroughbreds at all levels and there will be plenty of punters keeping their eye on the likes of Noire, Slow Burn and a long list of juveniles which look to have more than average ability.

We have sorted through the fields to find our best tips for every race, but for the best odds at Warwick Farm sign up with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Race 1 – Tab Rewards Handicap (1400m)

Padraig is a talented two-year-old for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, which is having its first start in Australia. The Power gelding scored a good win at Trentham before running sixth in the Karaka Million. It has since trialled at Cranbourne when it finished fourth behind Widgee Turf and it should excel at the midweek level in Australia. We’re expecting bookmakers to have it well-favoured in the market.

Punters can’t rule out the Godolphin team at present and Barbeque did the job nicely on debut. The Darren Beadman-trained gelding scored a narrow win as a $9 chance on debut at Warwick Farm and having that track experience will help. It steps up in distance for this which is ideal and drawing barrier three will allow it to settle close to the pace and sprint late. Tye Angland takes the ride and it should go close.

Race 1 tip: Padraig to place at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Bowermans Office Furniture (1400m)

Punters are getting increasingly frustrated with Emperor’s Way, but a win will come shortly. The Snowden-trained three-year-old has placed in all four starts to date and punters got burned when taking the $1.95 last time out at Kembla Grange. It would have likely needed the run back and drawing barrier two should allow it to find a more forward position. It’s tough to rule it out and it deserves a winning turn soon.

Loveletter didn’t have everything to suit last start on this track and it wouldn’t have lost any admirers. The John Thompson-trained filly finished second behind Improvement on debut before running fourth behind the talented Slow Burn at Canterbury. It settled too far back last start at Warwick Farm before making good late ground behind Pelorus Jack. The extra distance is ideal and Hugh Bowman will likely settle back from the wide draw and come with a big late run.

Race 3 – Rating 70 3YO Handicap (1600m)

Pelorus Jack capped off some consistent form to breakthrough for the win last start. The Les Bridge-trained gelding had run second behind both Calanda and Wayanka before beating a field of seven last start on this track. The son of Rothesay settle midfield before producing a big late finish and those were positive signs moving forward. The rise up to the mile won’t worry it at all and jockey Tim Clark is riding in career-best form at this level. It should be short in the market.

Vaucluse Bay is a last start winner for Chris Waller and it did it easily at Gosford. The Al Maher three-year-old had mixed form before winning by 2.5 lengths last start, which included a fifth behind Oklahoma Girl on this track. It’s not easy to rule out any Waller-trained runners at midweek level and bookmakers will be respecting it in the betting markets. It has drawn just outside Pelorus Jack which should make for an interesting first 100m.

Race 4 – Schweppes 3YO Handicap (1000m)

Difficult To Get is coming off a gritty win at Wyong and it could kick on with it now. The Jeff Englebrecht-trained filly was wide early, but it managed to hold off the challengers and secure its fourth win from 12 career starts. It will find this level much more competitive, but getting Hugh Bowman in the saddle is a big bonus and punters could cash in again.

Viceman has plenty of speed and that should show up here. The Joe Pride-trained gelding showed plenty of potential last campaign when winning at Gosford by 2.5 lengths, but it has been disappointing in two runs since. It started the short favourite in both starts, but it only narrowly suffered defeat at Gosford last start and its fitness will naturally improve. Corey Brown takes the ride and it should go close.

Race 5 – Rating 72 3YO Handicap (1400m)

The Gavel has needed two runs in this campaign to show its best and it should fire now. The Ron Quinton-trained gelding put back-to-back wins together last preparation before running second over a staying distance at Hawkesbury. It finished fifth last start, but it made up good ground to finish only 1.1 lengths behind the winner. It drops in weight and it should be paying a good price with bookmakers.

Kent is fresh up here after running 14th in the Victoria Derby. The Beadman-trained gelding didn’t handle the distance of the Derby, but this will suit better and it has placed in two of its three fresh up starts. The three-year-old by Domesday showed form behind the likes of Wine Bush and Good Standing – that form takes it close in this.

Race 6 – All Too Hard @ Vinery Handicap (1600m)

Chandana produced a powerful finish to run third at Rosehill last start and another good run looks likely. The Waller-trained mare was a winner two back at Wyong by three lengths and it has always possessed the potential to win at all levels. It has won and placed from three starts at Warwick Farm and it should settle midfield from barrier 11 before launching late again. It shouldn’t find this any harder than what it has faced recently.

Medaille has already won this campaign and it wasn’t too far behind last start. The Beadman-trained filly won by almost six lengths two back at Newcastle and although it wasn’t against a strong field, it finished off nicely in this grade when third last start. It has yet to finish outside of the top three at Warwick Farm and another tidy effort should come.

Race 6 tip: Chandana to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 7 – Rating 72 Handicap 3YO (1200m)

Noire is a quality type which scored a good win last start. The Waller-trained daughter of Foxwedge capped off some consistent form which encompassed two placings from its first two starts to win last time out at Canterbury and it looks to have above average talent. It has been well-backed in every start to date and the only negative factor this time is the wide draw of barrier 14. It requires luck, but it has talent.

Punters felt average after watching Slow Burn miss the jump last start, only to rattle home for third. The Bridge-trained filly was backed into $1.55 at Canterbury last start, but it missed the start and made up huge ground to get close to the winner Sisken, which has subsequently won at Scone. The daughter of Duporth looks to have a stack of ability and it defeated Noire by four lengths on debut. Harder here as it rises in grade, but it should be short in the market.

Race 7 tip: Slow Burn to win at Ladbrokes.com.au
