Wednesday, May 25 quaddie at Canterbury with form and tips

quaddie of the week
PUNTERS are being treated to some quality racing at Canterbury this Wednesday and we’re hoping for a juicy quaddie payout as well.

The first leg goes off at 2.45pm with the 3YO Rating 67 which features a field of 11 and it looks one of the toughest races on the card. There are no last start winners in the race, which will make it hard getting our quaddie supporters off to the right start, but there are some standout runners.

The second leg could be mistaken for a premier race on Saturday with multiple progressive types in action. The last two legs are good betting fields which should ensure a big quaddie result.

Leg 1 – 3YO Rating 67 Benchmark (1900m)

Chris Waller lines up Zourkhan which has had only one race in Australia for a third at Canterbury. The French import won its last race in France over 2800m and although this might be short of its best, there were encouraging signs last start. It has drawn wide with a big weight, but expect it to be in the finish at $3.

Raitza was a touch disappointing at Warwick Farm last start, but the betting drift suggested it wasn’t a chance. It has been better-supported for this at $5.50 and its form prior would suggest it’s a winning chance. The Godolphin filly won at Randwick three back before running a narrow second at Beaumont. Looks a handy chance in this at the weights.

Include Off The Bench ($10) and No Return ($7.50). Both are capable winners on their day and could add some value to the opening leg.

Leg 1 quaddie tips: 2, 6, 7, 8

Leg 2 – McGrath Estate Agents R70 (1550m)

The Gai Waterhouse-trained Supply And Demand didn’t quite fire last start, but that came in the hotly-contested Inglis Guineas at Scone. Its form prior included stylish wins at Kembla Grange and Randwick, and it potentially suffered from second-up syndrome last start. Big weight, but isn’t overly bad on the overall scale. Current favourite at $2.70.

Dark Steel is another runner out of the Inglis Guineas. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt finished just behind Supply And Demand in fifth and was running on well enough. It isn’t the most consistent runner with only two wins from 10 starts, but it is rock-hard fit and it has class on its side at this level. Only other runner needed in the second leg at $5.50.

Leg 2 quaddie tips: 2, 3

Leg 3 – More Than Ready 4YO R72 (1550m)

Current $3.80 favourite Think Aloud has had two runs this preparation and it looks ready to show its best. The James Cummmings-trained mare finished third at Wyong when fresh before battling on well at Canterbury last start. With those two runs under its belt, it should prove tough to beat in this.

Tender drops in grade after running ninth at Randwick last start. The Joe Pride-trained mare could rebound quickly as it gets a 3kg claimer in the saddle and the inside draw to work with. It has won on this track and although its win strike rate is average, a rare win could be on the cards. Worth including at $7.

Supreme is paying $17 despite winning well by one length last start. The Jason Coyle-trained mare was only racing in maiden grade, but it looked to have something in the tank and it could add some value into the quaddie.

Leg 3 quaddie tips: 4, 7, 8

Leg 4 – Tab More Than Just Winning R72 (1250m)

Fortune Patch has had four runs for trainer Michael Moroney for one win and two placings. The four-year-old has been patiently handled so far and it showed plenty of ability last start when second behind Bullrush on this track. Its only poor run came second up, which is a concern for punters taking the $4, but it should cope well with another run in this grade.

Majaska finished third in the same race as Fortune Patch and although it has never won at Canterbury, it has placed in five from six starts. That elusive win could come here after some encouraging runs leading into it. It will want a good track to show its best and conditions should suit. $5.50 with bookmakers.

Throw in Avonaco ($8) and Kind Heart ($21) as savers in a wide-open race.

Leg 4 quaddie tips: 2, 6, 11, 14
