Wayward Mutt Stripped, Jocks Blocked & Stipes Baffle | Punt Drunk

Saturday how we love you! You are a punters favourite day of the week, even more so this weekend with a whopping 15(!) local gallops meets for us all to consume on a glorious Saturday arvo on the punt. The team at horsebetting.com.au will have all the previews you need for the major metropolitan meetings throughout Australia, and hopefully we are able to steer you into a few winners throughout the day.

There’s been plenty of drama since we last spoke, so we’ll try our best to catch you up on some of the more unique ones, and put the normal Punt Drunk twist on them all.

Protest in the first!

On Thursday, the Kensington track at Randwick hosted a rare Thursday twilight meeting and wasn’t it action packed right from the first race?! We are still scratching our heads as to how the result was overturned in the Stewards room, but we’ll try our best to make some sort of sense of it for you. The Snowden team would have been thrilled with how their gelding Exoboom won the race when scraping in by the barest of margins. However, prior to final weight being declared Chris Waller & Kerrin McEvoy threw out a protest of the result questioning potential interference in the home straight aboard their filly Brookspire. Now, we have watched this through a solid 98 times, and we are still unsure as to how the Waller trained filly got the result in the Stewards room. Sure, the Snowden filly shifted out, but it was very minor and we have seen worse protests than this dismissed. If you were on Exoboom, then genuinely you do not have to be dead to be stiff.

Jockeys stood down

Victorian based jockeys Craig Williams, Nash Rawiller, Luke Currie and Jake Noonan have all been stood down from their rides over this weekend pending the result of a Covid-19 test. All four jockeys had recently returned from New South Wales, and amid the drama surrounding a Covid-19 outbreak, the quartet will need to be replaced for all their rides at Yarra Valley, Moonee Valley, Flemington, Sale & Horsham. Precautions like this is one of the many reasons as to why we still have racing through the midst of global pandemic, and at least it gives punters an excuse as to why their moral of the weekend didn’t salute.

Greyhound madness at Goulburn

We’re not one to steer out of our lane too often, but it’s hard not to when you see something as awesome as this in Race 3 at Goulburn. Sure we have seen plenty of Greyhounds end up on the grass at some point during our times on the punt, but have you ever seen one get the nod in a photo finish? Now unfortunately, if you were on Nordic Roman (#4) you realised pretty quickly that your greyhound was disqualified for gaining an “unfair advantage”, so you may feel harshly done by, but at least it’s a loss you will never forget! Sorry for rubbing it in again.
