Warwick Farm quaddie form and tips, Wednesday September 19

quaddie of the week

THE recent rain throughout the Sydney area has done wonders for the Warwick Farm meeting this Wednesday as the abandonment on races has created massive fields.

The quaddie legs have attracted great-sized fields which includes an incredible 19 nominations for the final leg at 5.25pm.

Those kind of nomination numbers aren’t seen too often in Sydney racing and much to the punters delight, the quaddie pools should be bigger than usual.

It all kicks off at 3.25pm with a rating 72 handicap where the stakes-performed Tatoosh starts a new spring campaign for trainer Paul Perry.

Leg 1 – Rating 72 3YO+ Handicap (1400m)

Coolcraft didn’t quite fire when up in grade at Rosehill, but its win prior at Canterbury was strong enough form for this. The Gwenda Markwell-trained gelding won narrowly over the well-performed Radical Impact and although it’s carrying 1.5kg more than that run, the five-year-old has ability and is worth including in quaddie selections.

Mon Pere rises significantly in grade, but its form speaks for itself. The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding has won four from five career starts, but none of those wins came in town and this isn’t the easiest of targets. In its favour is the inside draw and track conditions should suit on the day. Betting will indicate its chances and it must be included on its win rate alone.

Galaxy Warrior is another professional type with a good winning record. The Gayna Williams-trained gelding was well-backed to win a highway handicap at Randwick last start and was only narrowly defeated by Grande Rouge. Its form prior included a 4.5-length win on a slow track and back-to-back wins which culminated in a six-length romp at Orange. Highway handicap form should stack up midweek.

Tatoosh has won only two from 18 starts, but it showed plenty of ability as a juvenile and this is a drop in grade. The Paul Perry-trained gelding raced in top quality races such as the Tulloch Stakes and Carbine Club Stakes, but was disappointing in those runs. Much easier here and it must be included on talent alone.

Leg 1 tips: 1, 2, 4, 11

Leg 2 – Theraces R72 Handicap (1200m)

Wutai Mountain has thrived in the softer conditions after scoring another win last start. The Chris Waller-trained mare beat the talented Longkissgoodnight at Sandown last start and switching back to right-handed tracks will be no problem for it. The four-year-old won its only start at Warwick Farm, which came in maiden grade, and another big effort is expected here.

Faith’s Encore was well backed last start at Canterbury and it wasn’t disgraced when running third behind Painted Firetail. Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, the three-year-old was a stylish debut winner on this track which came by 2.5 lengths and it clearly has plenty of ability. It will get better as it matures and it draws another inside barrier here.

Cocoexcel was a winner on this track on debut by one length, but it didn’t cope well last start. The Chris Waller-trained filly might have felt the pinch of jumping up in grade to rating 70, coupled with the heavy track conditions. It again rises in grade for this, but punters should be expecting a much-improved performance at a nice weight of 55.5kg.

Leg 2 tips: 4, 9, 13

Leg 3 – Pro-Ride R66 Handicap (1100m)

Upscale was impressive on debut when winning by four lengths and it has since proven its worth. Trained by Kris Lees, the four-year-old has had two runs at Canterbury since where it ran third behind Lucky Can Be as the favourite and again ran as the favourite last start when it finished under a length behind Lady Jivago. That form looks strong for this so include in quaddie bets.

Super Maxi was missed by some last start, but we took the $10 on offer for the smart three-year-old. The Hawkes-trained gelding made it back-to-back quality wins and it looks likely to continue to progress through the grades. It’s well bred by Redoute’s Choice and it needs only a touch of luck from the wide draw.

Pound Sterling wasn’t far behind Super Maxi in third position last start and it has ability to win at midweek level. The son of Written Tycoon won on a heavy track three starts back at Warwick Farm and the addition of James McDonald in the saddle is a big plus. Wouldn’t rule it out here.

Leg 3 tips: 5, 10, 11

Leg 4 – Tab Rewards R72 Handicap (1600m)

Pianissimo has had a great campaign since resuming from a spell in August and it should continue the roll here. It won back-to-back races which have been good form guides and it was only a length behind High Mist last start which Hugh Bowman has rated as one of his best spring chances. Has good form on rain-affected tracks and punters should include it here.

Damedge is coming off back-to-back wins at Scone and drops nicely in weight for this. The Allen Denham-trained mare scored narrowly last start when carrying 59.5kg and the drop to 57.5kg will help. It thrives in the wet conditions with three wins from six starts and drawing barrier two is ideal. Each way chance.

Cellarman is a talented colt which won a quality race at Eagle Farm over subsequent winner Brulee. The Waller-trained three-year-old is bred for the wet conditions and its only bad run came behind Astern in the Run To The Rose at Rosehill. This is significantly easier and must be considered.

Leg 4 tips: 9, 12, 13
