Trainer Chris Waller is headed to a season record $5 million prize money in Qld metropolitan races.

Premier Sydney trainer Chris Waller is on track to break another prize money record at Doomben.

Waller set a record for Australia when his winners in Sydney and Caloundra last Saturday lifted his season earnings to $30,637,380.

Waller has runners in each of the three Group One races at Doomben on Saturday, the Stradbroke Handicap, Queensland Derby and J J Atkins.

A win in any of them will lift his prize money in Queensland metropolitan races past $5 million.

It will be the first time a trainer has gone over the $5 million mark in a Queensland metropolitan season.

The record was $4,300,250 set by Tony Gollan when he trained 86-1/2 winners in 2015-16.

Both Waller ($4,663,047) and Gollan ($4,453,065) have already passed that mark this season and it seems both will reach $5 million.

Waller has amassed his total from just 34 metropolitan winners while Gollan has 72 winners this season.

“Chris has the edge on me in the big prize money races with the number of runners he has,” Gollan said.

“But it is still a good season for us and we have some nice horses coming through.”

“The stable got its 113th overall winner on Wednesday and we have passed $5 million for the first time at all meetings. It would be nice to get the $5 million in the metro area as well.”

Waller said he had been pleased with the efforts of his satellite stable on the Gold Coast.

“Part of the reason for setting it up was to win Magic Millions races and winter carnival features and we have done that,” he said.
