Some of the best three-year-olds in Western Australia will battle it out for the lion’s share of $500,000 in the Group 2 WA Guineas at Ascot this Saturday. Magical Dream has come up at nice odds despite her impressive campaign so far. She’s a galloper who is ridden cold and settles to be one of the backmarkers in the WA Guineas, but she possesses a turn of foot plenty her rivals do not have in their locker. With a fast tempo expected throughout, the race is set up for her to swoop down the outside. She also returns to a firmer track after going around on a Heavy 8 last time out in the Champion Fillies Stakes. Gemma’s Son maps to be up on speed from barrier 13, and he will need a bit of luck early on to avoid being trapped wide in a fast race such as this. Despite having only won once this campaign, he has been there or thereabouts and should continue that trend in this. He boasts an impressive five wins from nine career starts, and anything like his best form sees him fighting out the finish on Saturday.
Phanta will be looking to build on an impressive start to his career. He was swamped in the shadows of the winning post in the Listed Fairetha Stakes a fortnight ago and showed plenty of heart after leading the whole way bar the concluding stages. He maps to be the leader of the race and will make sure that this is a genuine tempo throughout. He has the ticker to be fighting out the finish at big odds.
