VOBIS Gold form and free tips for racing at Caulfield, April 22

Caulfield tips

VOBIS Gold pumps a lot of money into the Australian racing industry and it is the major sponsor for racing at Caulfield this Saturday.

The bonus races include the Gold Mile, Gold Heath and also the Sires which runs for a cool stake of $300,000 – where a full field of juveniles will take part.

The nine-race card also features the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Bel Esprit Stakes where the likes of Mahuta, Crystal Dreamer and Kaepernick will ensure the race is action packed.

It all starts with the JRA Marathon Final over a whopping 4000m and will get a bonus bet of up to $50 if your horse finishes second or third in the first four races at Caulfield on Saturday.

Race 1 – JRA Marathon Final (4000m)

Bayanova has had its chances to win over the staying distances this campaign, but again it has been well-backed. The Mick Kent-trained mare ran third at Oakbank on Monday and the quick turnaround might help it out. It doesn’t have a second gear, but this isn’t a tough race.

Spur On Gold comes out of the same race having scored the 1.7-length win. The Grant Young-trained gelding excelled over the extreme distance and rising up to 4000m should suit perfectly. It drops down in weight and it should be tough to beat at $3.60.

Prize is a seven-time winner from 70 starts and it won three straight earlier this campaign. The son of Reset finished second behind Spur On Gold at Oakbank and going the extra distance won’t be an issue. It will keep fighting and it should go close again.

Race 1 tip: Spur On Gold to win ($3.60) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Thomas North Handicap (1600m)

Elite Tiger scored an impressive win last time out and it should run a good race again. The Dan O’Sullivan-trained gelding is the fit runner of the field and it handles all track conditions. Ben Allen takes 1.5kg off its back and the $8.50 is a good price from bookmakers.

It’s about time Pay Up Bro paid up for punters. The four-year-old has all the talent in the world, but has only three wins to its name. It tried hard in behind Top Me Up last start and despite having never finished well at Caulfield, it has been backed into $3.60.

Unbreakable goes well at Caulfield with four starts for one win and two placings. The John O’Shea-trained gelding drops in grade after a poor run last start and it rises back up in distance to the mile where it has placed in only one from six starts. They haven’t found the trick to this runner yet, but consider here.

Race 2 tip: Elite Tiger to win ($8.50) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 3 – IRT VOBIS Gold Mile (1600m)

Burning Front remains the odds on favourite despite being beaten last start as the favourite. The Darren Weir-trained gelding finished fourth in the Golden Mile at Bendigo, but its form prior included four straight wins. It’s unbeaten in three starts at Caulfield and it looms as a big winning chance with a lighter weight. $1.75 is a short price however.

Entre Nous is a last start winner in the Benalla Cup and that form should be good enough to feature in this. The Gerald Egan-trained gelding is a five-time winner at this distance and it handles all track conditions. This is a harder race to win, but there’s some value in the $9 odds.

Bel Burgess has to be considered on winning four consecutive races coming into this. The Geelong-based gelding faces a steep rise in class for this and it’s not weighted well, but it gets a good run from the inside draw and it could go close.

Race 3 tip: Burning Front to win (-133.33) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 4 – VOBIS Gold Heath (2000m)

Rockstar Rebel was a touch disappointing when running fifth as the favourite last start, but it has ability and it shouldn’t be overlooked. The Weir-trained colt still has plenty of maturing to do and it has been set for this race all campaign. The son of Rebel Raider should enjoy this distance and it has been heavily-backed into $6.50 after opening at $9.50.

Ruthven is a capable three-year-old which held its ground in the Australian Derby. The Ciaron Maher-trained colt finished fourth behind Jon Snow which followed a second placing in the Alister Clarke Stakes at Moonee Valley. It looks well-placed for this and the $2.20 suggests it should be going close.

Toffee Nose has yet to run a bad race this campaign and it fought on well for third on this track last start. The three-year-old filly was nicely supported on that occasion and it stays down in the weights at 54kg which is a big help. Punters should consider the $6.50 on offer after opening at $6.

Race 4 tip: Ruthven to win ($2.20) at Bet365.com

Race 5 – Swear At Spendthrift VOBIS Sires (1200m)

Pure Scot was an easy winner on debut before running a handy third at Bendigo last start. The Lindsay Park-trained filly didn’t have the best of runs in behind the speed and the rise up in distance looks ideal. It has been well-found in the betting at $5.50 and should be considered as a winning chance.

Je Suis Tycoon is the $3.50 favourite following a good debut effort. The Henry Dwyer-trained filly flew late behind Speed Street at Bendigo and it was forced to cover ground throughout the run. It should get more favours from a nice barrier of five and the extra distance looks suitable.

Seized has attracted support at $5. The John Sadler-trained colt looked good when running second on debut before making late ground behind Speed Street last start. That appears to be the best form guide for this and we’re expecting another solid run.

Race 5 tip: Je Suis Tycoon to win (+250) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 6 – Ladbrokes VOBIS Gold Distaff (1400m)

Whistle Baby tried hard in the Gold Bracelet at Bendigo last start and that form should stack up nicely for this. The Ellerton/Zahra-trained mare is still seeking its first win at Caulfield after nine attempts, but it goes well at this distance and jockey Chris Symons should get a good trip from barrier four. Currently $4.20 to win.

French Emotion was heavily backed last time out and punters will be expecting a better effort here. The Waller-trained five-year-old is twice a winner at this distance and it was making good late ground last start, so the drop back in distance might not help its cause. The punters have come again at $2.80, but that’s short.

Gold Fontein is a horse in form having won twice from its last start starts. The Peter Morgan-trained mare has been running in career best form and it gets in here with a nice weight. It could take advantage running against some out-of-form types.

Race 6 tip: Gold Fontein to win ($13) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 7 – Thoroughbred Breeders Bel Esprit Stakes (1100m)

Rageese isn’t quite the horse it used to be, but punters are getting some value odds here. The Weir-trained sprinter won the Chatham Stakes last campaign when beating the likes of Arod, but it wasn’t able to follow that up in the Festival Stakes. It usually needs time to get fit, but consider the $17 on offer.

Rocket Tommy is living up to its name by winning its last three starts. The Gwenda Johnstone-trained gelding was a one-length winner at Flemington last start and it makes its own luck in front. It has an awkward barrier draw of 11 to overcome, but it has the rocket speed to cross. It’s currently $7 with bookmakers.

Crystal Dreamer is on the drift from $9 to $10 despite winning four of its last five starts. The four-year-old asserted its class when winning at Caulfield last start and there’s no reason why it can’t win again here. It has won here twice and it stays down in the weights at 54kg.

Race 7 tip: Crystal Dreamer to place (+230) at WilliamHill.com.au

Race 8 – Newmarket VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m)

Rich Charm was a classy winner of the Grand Handicap Sprint last start and it has plenty more wins in store. The Udyta Clarke-trained gelding is unbeaten at this track and it’s a three-time winner at this distance. It handles all track conditions and the $6 on offer is a good value price.

Tycoon Tara is the class runner of the field, but it will need to bounce back after running poorly in the Sapphire Stakes at Randwick. The Snowden-trained mare returns to Caulfield where it has won twice and it’s a three-time winner at this distance. The barrier draw of four helps and punters are confident at $4.20 after it opened at $4.40.

Ken’s Dream was a last start winner on this track and it has good enough form to consider. The Weir-trained three-year-old finished second in the Moomba Plate behind Falcool and fourth behind Flying Artie in the Blue Sapphire which is good form for this. Look for it to be finishing over the top of them late.

Race 8 tip: Rich Charm to win ($6) at Bet365.com

Race 9 – Goldners Horse Transport VOBIS Gold Reef (1600m)

Greviste has won twice already this campaign and it has been specked at each way odds. The Mitchell Freedman-trained gelding didn’t have much luck when winning last start, but it still managed to let down over the top of them. Consider here at $7.50 after opening at $8.

Sword Of Light is the class runner of the field and it’s in form. The three-year-old filly scored a strong one-length win at Caulfield last start and it stays on the track where it has multiple wins and placings. Drawing barrier 13 hasn’t made it easy, but punters are confident having backed it in from $3 to $2.70.

Kazio was a winner on debut before running third at Moonee Valley and third at Bendigo in the Guineas. It got back in the running and stormed home behind Milwaukee. The form out of the Guineas should stack up nicely and it’s a good chance at $4.

Race 9 tip: Sword Of Light to win ($2.70) at Sportsbet.com.au
