Victorian apprentice banned over $20 bet

An apprentice jockey has been suspended for placing a $20 bet at a picnic race meeting.

Liam Riordan was suspended by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board for placing the bet at the Woolamai picnic race meeting in rural Victoria on April 9.

Riordan faced two charges, one of placing the $20 bet and one of giving false or misleading evidence at a stewards’ inquiry.

He pleaded gulity and was suspended for four weeks on each charge with the suspensions to be served concurrently.

Riordan’s suspension begins after he rides at the Geelong meeting on Tuesday.

Apprenticed to Leon and Troy Corstens, Riordan had his first ride in March and has ridden two winners from 29 races.
