Vet test for Celebrity Queen ahead of Newmarket

Newmarket Handicap hope Celebrity Queen will undergo a veterinary examination before scratching time on Saturday after pulling a front shoe during the week.

A $13 chance in TAB markets for the Group 1 1200m sprint on Saturday, Celebrity Queen will race in bar plates on Saturday.

Co-trainer Grant Williams reported to Racing Victoria stewards the mare had pulled her left front plate during the week and was slightly short in her action late on Thursday.

Celebrity Queen showed no signs of lameness on Friday morning, but Williams will continue to monitor the mare.

Williams said Celebrity Queen had been attended to by a farrier and had missed no work in the lead up to Saturday’s race.

RV vets will inspect the mare on Saturday morning prior to the 7.30am scratching time.

A winner of seven of her 13 starts for Williams and his wife Alana, Celebrity Queen, under William Pike, made her Victorian debut sharing the honours with Portland Sky in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 20.
