Trip across the Tasman on the cards for Volpe Veloce

Volpe Veloce could be heading to Australia to show its potential at the big Melbourne metro venues.

TRAINING pair Graham Richardson and Gavin Parker have a multitude of options in the new racing season with their multiple stakes winner Volpe Veloce.

The classy three-year-old daughter of Foxwedge is in the early stages of a new preparation after spelling particularly well, and Richardson believes the filly has benefitted greatly from the time away from the track.

“She had two months off and she’s really strengthened,” Richardson said.

“She did two weeks of pre-training and she’s been back with us for a couple of weeks.”

Richardson is already looking forward to what the new campaign will bring, stating that a trip to Australia could be in the works for the talented prospect.

“She might go to the Foxbridge Plate and then we may look at Melbourne. There are any number of fillies and mares’ races there.

“Nothing has been confirmed yet though and there’s Hawke’s Bay to think about as well.”

Volpe Veloce has won seven of her eight starts, including the Group Two Eight Carat Classic, the Group Three Eulogy Stakes and at Listed level the Karaka Mile and the Castletown Stakes.

The stable also has another highly-touted prospect on their hands in the form of La Mia Stella.

The promising youngster will debut at Te Teko on Wednesday when in the New World Whakatane 2YO.

Richardson said he is uncertain if the surface will suit the well-trialed two-year-old, but is willing to take a punt.

“She’s a lovely filly, but I’m not sure about the ground,” Richardson said.

“She’ll have this one and then we’ll put her out and come back and set her for the Gold Trail Stakes.”
