Trainer Pat Farrell confident Alart can win Scone Guineas

MUSWELLBROOK trainer Pat Farrell is confident in the ability of $21 shot Alart in the $400,000 Inglis 3YO Guineas (1400m) at Scone on Saturday.

In fact, the experienced mentor says it will take bad luck or a very special performance to defeat Alart on her favourite track, where she has never been beaten from three starts.

“I’ve set her for this and Alart will win,” Farrell said, despite the horse not winning in four starts this preparation.

“She’s never worked better. I think she’s just matured and the 1400-metres at Scone will be ideal.

“If she doesn’t win, whatever beats her will win the race. She’s done really well this time in and hasn’t run a bad race.”

Farrell also has a Hinchinbrook filly called Lockout in the $100,000 Inglis 2YO Challenge (1100m) run at Scone on Friday, the horse having had three starts for a third placing.

“She will run well but Jenny Graham’s horse (Miss Amajardan) should be too good for the field,” Farrell said.

“Lockout is an each-way chance; she’s not a great horse but most of others don’t appear to be either.”

Farrell’s other runner for the two-day Scone carnival will be the unraced Pel in Friday’s $40,000 Cressfield Maiden Handicap (1000m).

Farrell says she has enough ability to figure in the finish but knows she’ll improve on whatever she does at her first outing at the races.

“She’s not a bad filly and can gallop so I’m confident in her, but it’s only her first start,” he said.

Acceptances for Scone’s Friday and Saturday race meetings will be declared after 9am on Wednesday.
