Andrew Carston isn’t short of runners at the Phar Lap Raceway on Wednesday and he has tipped Khorabella as one to follow.

“We’ve got 11 in and she’s going really well and is probably our best chance,” the Riccarton-based horseman said.

Khorabella has been in good form this preparation and the Darci Brahma mare will be chasing an $11,500 bonus on offer in the New Zealand Bloodstock Insurance Pearl Series Race (1600m).

The four-year-old produced a dominant performance two starts back to win her maiden with ease and at her most recent appearance she finished fourth, again on her home track, over 1400m.

She raced back on the fence and finished strongly when into the clear.

“The rail was out at her last start and I don’t agree with changing racing patterns so we rode her back and she got home nicely,” Carston said. “She’s come through the race well.”

Khorabella has been ridden in her last three appearances by Racha Cuneen and he will again be in charge of the mare, who will jump from the outside gate.

“I’m not worried about the draw, she’ll be ridden quietly and she’s more than capable of winning,” Carston said.

The stable also holds a decent hand in the Onceuponatime & Central SI O & T Association 1200m with Celtic Cross, Elusive Boxers and Vishnu engaged.

All three have been in the money in recent outings while Petite Midas, a last-start third at Riccarton, and Suggestive Loox, who was an unlucky fourth at Wingatui, look strong prospects in the Three Valleys Sales Draft Dash (1200m).
