Trainer banned for 12 months over cobalt

Grafton trainer Wayne Lawson has been disqualified for 12 months after being found guilty of a cobalt charge.

Racing NSW stewards delivered the penalty on Thursday after finding the trainer had taken Stella’s Chance to Grafton on March 21 with a prohibited substance in his system, that being cobalt at a level of 330mg found in a urine sample following his win in a maiden.

The threshold for cobalt is 200mg.

Lawson was also fined $500 for having unlabelled substances in his stable and another $500 for not recording treatment to Stella’s Chance between March 7 and 19.
