Race 1 – Benchmark 85 (1000m)
Lilly Kareena is second-up after a strong resuming win and looms as the winner here. The horse won at the track, distance and grading on March 15. The only thing holding the mare back from doing it once again is the additional weight.
Race 1 tip: Lilly Kareena to win at Sportsbet
Race 2 – Open Handicap (1300m)
Tambo’s Heart looks ready for its biggest test yet. The horse has won three of its last five runs including a strong win at Mackay at Class 6 level. Back Tambo’s Heart in.
Race 2 tip: Tambo’s Heart to win at William Hill
Race 3 – Maiden (1000m)
If natural progression takes its course Tawhiri will be winning this race. After a debut third the horse went on to finish second, just a head away from Dancing Diva. Conditions favour a big run here.
Race 3 tip: Tawhiri to win ($3.40 at Sportsbet)
Race 4 – Maiden Plate (1200m)
A tricky gate is the only thing holding Lonesome Blues back here. The horse returned in good shape at this track on March 6 and looks ready to win in just its third race start.
Race 4 tip: Lonesome Blues to win ($4.80 at Sportsbet)
Race 5 – Class 6 Plate (1400m)
Top Ravine is a deserved short-priced favourite going into this race. The horse returned to form in stunning fashion at Rocky a fortnight ago, blitzing the field by just under three lengths. Top Ravine actually drops weight coming into this one. Go figure.
Race 5 tip: Top Ravine to win ($1.65 at Ladbrokes)
Race 6 – Benchmark 60 (1609m)
We’re backing Luvya Beak to bounce back. Prior to the horse’s neat one length defeat at Cairns on March 17, Luvya Beak had recorded a hat-trick. This is a winnable race for the three-year-old filly.
Race 6 tip: Luvya Beak to win ($4.60 at Neds)
Race 7 – Benchmark 64 (1400m)
Our Single Doubt has the ability to win the final event on the Townsville card. The horse drops back in grade after only missing out by a neck on February 13, and we think this is well within its wheelhouse.
Race 7 tip: Our Single Doubt to win ($4 at Crownbet)
