Top Group 1 producer Parfore dies aged 18

Champion broodmare Parfore has died aged 18 at Segenhoe Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Parfore is the dam of Australian Group One winners Terravista and Tiger Tees and Group Two winner Ball Of Muscle, all three of whom are trained by Joe Pride.

She also produced dual Singapore Horse of the Year Super Easy and stakes winner Our Lukas.

Bought by New Zealanders Mike and Christine Ryan for $30,000 at a broodmare sale, Parfore leaves a colt foal by Rip Van Winkle and a yearling filly by Darci Brahma.

“My wife, Christine and I have been very privileged to have owned a broodmare such as Parfore,” Mike Ryan told nzracing.co.nz.

“We have owned racehorses for only 16 years and have had Parfore for 13 of those years, so losing her so suddenly has been very sad and difficult for us both.”

Parfore, who has been buried on a hill at Segenhoe alongside another great mare Skating, was the 2015 New Zealand Broodmare of the Year.

Terravista and Ball Of Muscle are scheduled to run in Saturday’s Group One Galaxy at Rosehill.
