Top five tips for Doomben, Randwick and Flemington, June 10

Weekend tips

THE racing action will come thick and fast this Saturday with three major meetings on the cards.

Doomben hosts the biggest meeting with the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, J.J. Atkins and the Queensland Derby.

Randwick and Flemington also has some great betting fields and we have found our best five tips this Saturday at all three venues.

Finding the best value is important when betting on the horses and we have scoured all the bookmakers to ensure we offer our runners at the best possible prices.

For punters wanting to bet on the Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben we suggest signing up to Ladbrokes.com.au which is offering enhanced odds on every runner.

Our first pick runs at Doomben and it looking to rebound after a poor last start effort.

Religify – Doomben Race 3

Forget the Chris Waller-trained Religify went around at Eagle Farm last start as the wet track was never going to suit.

The six-year-old has never won in six starts on rain-affected tracks and getting back onto a firm surface will excel its chances. It has won all 11 races on a good track and conditions look cherry ripe for Saturday.

The son of Choisir was a brilliant winner in two starts at Randwick earlier this year before struggling at Rosehill in the slow going. It was able to rebound nicely to score in the Prime Minister’s Cup at the Gold Coast in May and that form should be considered here.

Hugh Bowman rides which is a positive and we’re expecting it to be settled just off the pace and held for one last run at them.

Punters are getting $3.20 with CrownBet.com.au.

Melody Belle – Doomben Race 6

Taking odds on for Melody Belle is a touch risky, but the classy filly looks to have lengths on this field.

The Te Akau-raced two-year-old was a brilliant 4.8-length winner against similar opposition in the Sires’ Produce and it made it three consecutive wins having taken out the Sires’ in New Zealand and the Karaka Million.

The daughter of Commands won’t worry about the improving track conditions and the rise up to the mile looks ideal considering its breeding.

The $2 at Sportsbet.com.au is on the skinny side for the J.J. Atkins, but we think many punters will include Melody Belle into their multi selections and that looks a good strategy.

Walk The Streets – Randwick Race 5

We made the point that it would be wise to follow Walk The Streets after its last start performance and punters haven’t had to wait long.

The Waller-trained filly ran well for third at Rosehill last week when making good going behind Just Dreaming and the rise up in distance looks ideal for this.

The nicely-bred daughter of Street Cry has always indicated that it would handle the staying distances and with a recent placing behind Pelorus Jack, that form line should stack up nicely at this level.

In-form jockey Tim Clark takes over the riding duties and considering the value punters are getting, we couldn’t leave the improving runner out of our top five tips.

$4.70 is available at Ladbrokes.com.au and that’s worth dipping into.

Santa Ana Lane – Flemington Race 3

Santa Ana Lane was desperately unlucky in the Group 1 Goodwood last start and it drops massively in grade for this.

The Freedman-trained gelding was a good winner prior to that and despite having never won at Flemington and with the straight circuit not ideal, it has far too much class for this field and it should take advantage.

It has been well-backed into $3 with Bet365.com and we think punters will struggle to get that price on race day.

De Little Engine – Flemington Race 4

Bookmakers seem reluctant to give this stayer the credit it truly deserves.

The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding continues to win and its win in the Ramsden last start was pure class. It has won its last two starts by a combined margin of 8.5 lengths and the only thing punters are worried about it the drop back in distance.

We would prefer to see it run over more than the 2500m, but it has never run a bad race over this distance and it finished second behind Boom Time just three starts ago over 2425m.

Apprentice jockey Ben Thompson takes some weight off its back and the five-time Flemington winner looks a good chance against a field lacking real quality.

We’ll take the $3.50 on offer at Sportsbet and run.

Honourable mention – Volatile Mix

Volatile Mix races for Darren Weir in the Queensland Derby and we think punters are getting a good price for possibly the best horse in the race.

Drawing barrier 20 was the real killer blow for punters, but it will drop back to last and rely on luck and its big finishing burst to go close.

It won’t be easy to win, but the $6.50 to win and $2.50 to place at WilliamHill.com.au is good enough to take the risk.
