Top five racing tips for Rosehill, Moonee Valley and Doomben

weekend tips

THE quality racing continues this Saturday where we have targeted the three major tracks of Doomben, Rosehill and Moonee Valley.

All three meetings have attracted some of the best thoroughbreds in Australia and we have found our top five picks with in-depth form and updated odds.

Included in our selections are horses which have shown great form this season and also some which are knocking on the door of a big win.

Our first tip runs at Doomben which hosts the Group 1 Queensland Oaks this Saturday.

Ladbrokes.com.au

High Midnight – Doomben Race 3

The James Cummings-trained gelding tried hard behind Jungle Edge in the BRC Sprint last start and that form is very strong for this.

Jungle Edge relished the heavy track and to finish only 2.3 lengths behind it was a credit to High Midnight, which always improves with the run under its belt.

The five-year-old has had four second up starts for three wins and one placing. That bodes well for this and it will enjoy taking on the easier opposition if faces here.

It has drawn barrier 11, but that won’t matter over this distance and there looks to have a lack of speed in the race which plays right into its hands.

The $2.90 at Ladbrokes.com.au should be taken and we’re expecting it to start around the $2.40 mark.

Snitty Kitty – Doomben Race 5

We took many looks at whether to include Snitty Kitty in our top five, but the value is too good to pass up.

The Henry Dwyer-trained filly maps out perfectly in this race and after trying hard behind Miss Debutante in the Denises Joy, it should be high on every punters radar.

The three-year-old by Snitzel scored an impressive win at Caulfield before running at Scone and its superior gate speed is its biggest asset. It flies the barriers and with three wins coming at this distance, the opposition will need to run slick sectionals to keep up.

It must be seriously considered a winning hope from barrier five and only 54kg on its back. That’s a nice advantage to have and the $5 at Sportsbet.com.au will get snapped up as the race draws nearer.

Bonny O’Reilly – Doomben Race 8

Punters should be following this mare with interest.

The Bjorn Baker-trained four-year-old has rattled off four consecutive wins and despite the winning margins not being wide, it has had to dig in which shows class.

The New Zealand-bred runner lifted late to beat Wild ‘n’ Famous last start at Rosehill and despite the change in track conditions, it should adapt nicely to Doomben and be tough to beat again.

It’s unbeaten in two starts at this distance, unbeaten in two starts on slow surfaces and has won four from six on a good track.

There aren’t many negatives surrounding Bonny O’Reilly which makes it a punters’ favourite and we’re getting great odds again for the classy mare.

$3.50 is on offer at CrownBet and we’ll happily take those odds. There are inferior horses running around at odds-on prices and backing a horse on the way up is a good way to go about things this Saturday.

New Universe – Rosehill Race 2

We mentioned in our Rosehill preview earlier this week that New Universe would have to be good to win this race, but upon further reflection we think it is that good.

The Chris Waller-trained New Zealand import has been brilliant in winning both starts in Australia and it needed to show an extreme turn-of-foot to win last time out when the pace didn’t suit.

For a back marker to reel them in the way it did showed a fair amount of class and this could be a three-year-old gelding we’re talking about in the group ones next season.

It has more natural talent than its opposition here and it only goes up 1kg in weight after winning in this grade last time out.

Having a good pace up front will make it almost unbeatable based on what we’ve seen, but it has shown its will to win from any situation and the $2.60 at Ladbrokes is better than what punters got last time.

We’re expecting big things from this potential group winner.

Miss Vista – Moonee Valley Race 3

We’re guessing the wide draw has put many punters off backing Miss Vista, but it’s electric gate speed should negate drawing barrier 11.

The showy mare was catch late by Grey Street last time out, but that came over 1100m and it drop back to 1000m where it has won three of its four starts.

The quality four-year-old won its only start at Moonee Valley after sitting three wide throughout and it’s that class which is why so many punters love backing it.

Apprentice jockey Jordan Childs will push it out from the barriers and it will likely be too tough to catch around the one-turn Moonee Valley circuit.

$4 at CrownBet.com.au is worth sinking your teeth into.

Honourable mention – Tucanchoo (Rosehill Race 7)

We didn’t want to leave out Tucanchoo at the value odds of $11 at Sportsbet.com.au.

The Hawkes-trained gelding is a seven-time winner which produced a strong finish at Flemington when fresh up and it has good second up form.

The seven-year-old won its only start at Rosehill and it has the class edge over the current favourites So Willie and Supply And Demand.

It could be worth at least a place bet at $3.30.
