Tony McEvoy to close NSW stables

Tony McEvoy is to close his NSW stables at Hawkesbury and Randwick to concentrate on his operations in Victoria and South Australia.

McEvoy said he wanted to consolidate his business and focus on Adelaide and Melbourne.

“It has been a difficult decision but to ensure the best results for my owners, I have decided to close the Hawkesbury stables and relinquish the boxes at Randwick,” McEvoy said in a statement.

“With the granting of boxes at Flemington last year, despite the quality of my staff, I have found myself really stretched to properly oversee the complete operation and this time has also been difficult for my family.”

Among those waiting in the wings for stables at Randwick is Mark Newnham who was knocked back a few weeks ago because of lack of space.

Gai Waterhouse’s former right-hand man, Newnham is in the process of setting up his new stable at Warwick Farm.
