Tony Gollan’s luck holds in close finish

Jeff Lloyd and Sheiswhatsheis.
Jeff Lloyd executed a perfect front-running ride to win on Sheiswhatsheis at Doomben.

Trainer Tony Gollan had his second piece of luck in the matter of minutes when Sheiswhatsheis scored her first stakes win in the Listed Members Handicap (1600m) at Doomben.

Ridden a masterful front-running race by Jeff Lloyd, Sheiswhatsheis ($7) held on to beat Aqua Vite ($4) by a short-half head with three quarters of a length to Nozomi ($17) in third.

Only minutes earlier Gollan had a lucky escape when a horse lashed out in the saddling enclosure and missed him by centimetres.

“That was two close shaves in the matter of minutes. I really didn’t know if she had won but it was a great ride by Jeff (Lloyd),” Gollan said.

Gollan said he had chased Lloyd for the ride.

“I have been saying for some time that Sheiswhatsheis would win a black-type race and now she has done that,” Gollan said.

“She is in the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale (on May 29) but the owners may want to have a think and race on with her.”

Lloyd said he had been able to dictate the pace and Sheiswhatsheis had held on bravely.
