Tom Sadler suspended at Sandown

Tom Sadler will consider an appeal against a careless riding suspension which threatens to rule him out of the Warrnambool Cup ride on the in-form Observational.

Sadler won the final race at Sandown on Wednesday aboard Divine Chills in a family affair with the horse trained by the jockey’s father John while Tom’s sister Kate manages the syndicate of owners.

But Sadler was later banned for nine meetings after stewards found him guilty of shifting in at the 800m mark, resulting in Harry Coffey having to take hold of his mount Check Our Enemy.

The suspension is due to start after he rides in Adelaide on Saturday, which would rule him out of the following week’s three-day Warrnambool carnival.

The John Sadler-trained Observational is scheduled to run in next Thursday’s $200,000 Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m).

Observational gave Tom Sadler his first stakes success in the Group Three Easter Cup on April 15.
