Time for Sensible Princess to shine at stakes level

A measured approach with a late-maturing mare could result in a black type reward in the coming months.

The five-year-old Sensible Princess completed a hat-trick of victories through June and July and following a break she has returned to Fraser Auret’s Marton stable.

“After her last win she went straight to the paddock for three weeks and she’s back in now,” he said.

The daughter of Street Sense has responded to patient handling and since her debut third behind another rising star in Dolcetto a little over 12 months ago, she has raced a further six times for four wins.

“She’s kept going to another level so we’re pretty excited,” Auret said.

“She has come through the grades quite quickly and we’re looking forward to a really good spring with her.

“In an ideal world she would end up in the Group Three Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes at Hawera in October.

“All going to plan, that’s a race that we think would suit her.”

Auret said Sensible Princess had always impressed him, but she was never going to make early progress.

“We’ve always held her in high regard, but had to go along quietly. She has taken a long time to physically develop and to become a complete package.”

Sensible Princess is raced by her breeder John Bromley, who has been a long-time supporter of Auret.

Their leading performers include the dual Group One winner Julinsky Prince and the stakes-winning half-brothers Thorn Prince and Alinko Prince.
