Tiffani Brooker to consider an appeal

Apprentice Tiffiani Brooker will consider appealing the severity of her seven-day suspension for excessive whip use aboard Victory Stakes winner Dreams Aplenty while the trainer of the runner-up will try to have the result reversed.

Brent Stanley has reportedly sought legal advice after Violate was beaten a nose by Dreams Aplenty.

Violate’s jockey Larry Cassidy did not enter a protest.

Stewards took a dim view of Brooker’s ride, saying she used the whip 17 times before the 100m and 10 times inside the final 100.

Brooker pleaded guilty and was suspended from next Saturday night until May 13 which means she will miss the Doomben 10,000 day.

She was also fined $2000 with chief steward Allan Reardon warning her she could have lost the race had Cassidy lodged a protest.

Brooker has until Friday to decide whether she will seek an internal review appeal on the severity of the suspension.
