Three in a row for O’Lonera at Caulfield
O’Lonera has earned his connections $38,500 for a track gallop at Caulfield.
Victory in the Anzac Commemoration Handicap on Saturday completed a hat-trick for the gelding after victories at Caulfield over 2000m and 2400m.
Sent out the $3 favourite and ridden by Nick Hall, O’Lonera scored a three-quarter length win from Electric Fusion ($31), with Hursley ($3.50) a half-length away in third.
O’Lonera dropped back from the 2400m he was successful over on July 30 to 2000m on Saturday.
Trainer Cindy Alderson has a 2500m race at Moonee Valley next Saturday in mind for the gelding and said Saturday’s Caulfield race fit his program.
She says O’Lonera has been a revelation since stepping up in journey, with Saturday’s victory his second at 2000m after three tries at the distance.
“I think it’s due to his nature,” Alderson said.
“He’s such a relaxed horse. It doesn’t matter who is around him.
“He doesn’t waste any energy until you want him and I think that goes a long way for a horse to stay a trip.”
