Thousand Guineas betting preview
A field of 14 fillies will face the starter for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas over the Caulfield mile in a race that plenty of trainers use as a springboard for major races later in the season. Unlike the Caulfield Guineas, which is more about identifying stud prospects, the Thousand Guineas will show who can race on strongly as mares in the future. The field will face the starter at 3:50pm AEDT.
The Phillip Stokes-trained filly couldn’t have been more impressive when bolting in during the Thousand Guineas Prelude a fortnight ago. She seemed to have plenty left in the tank after sustaining a run six deep from the 600m mark and looks well placed here to have the Thousand Guineas as a stepping stone to bigger things. She is four wins from four starts and could extend that undefeated record this weekend.
The Chris Waller-trained filly looked to have had the Flight Stakes for the taking last weekend in Sydney before getting mowed down late. The filly to Frankel seems well bred to handle the mile. She has chased home the impressive Dame Giselle over a shorter distance but got the better of her last time out when she found another just too good. If she runs to her Sydney form here, then she’ll be fighting out the finish.
The Godolophin filly had no right to score as nicely as she did last Saturday at Flemington, considering she was midfield and three wide with no cover in the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes. That was her first run in Melbourne after showing consistent form in Sydney without breaking through. In NSW she chased home the impressive duo of Dame Giselle and Hungry Heart, who she faces here in the Thousand Guineas. Considering there does not seem to be much between them, it is hard to see why there is such a difference in the market.
