Theo Marks Stakes 2020 betting tips & form guide

Funstar
Funstar looks set to jump as favourite in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill this Saturday.

The Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes over 1300m is one of the highlights of the afternoon at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday. We see a number of quality gallopers involved, including Stradbroke winner Tyzone and Flight Stakes winner Funstar, who will jump favourite ahead of Special Reward and Wild Planet. There will be a bit of speed engaged, with Special Reward and Kosciuszko slot holder Fender the two go-forward horses in the race.

Saturday racing tips for 2020 Theo Marks Stakes

Best Bet
Wild Planet @ $5.50

Team Hawkes’ Wild Planet looks to be the galloper that will get all of the favours in the run under Tommy Berry from gate four. His first-up run was a total forgive and forget when he had absolutely nowhere to go but plenty of gas in the tank. While he could find himself in a similar situation here, Berry will make sure he finds clear running for the talented gelding at the top of the straight. Up to the 1300m will suit him down to the ground. He’s won second up in the past, so he should be fit enough.

Next Best
Ranier @ $12

Ranier always races well fresh (5:1-2-0) and is undefeated over the Rosehill 1300m course, which brings him right into this race. He won two on the trot last campaign before running a terrific fifth in the Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm. The five-year-old gelding looks to be a horse who gets better with time, so we expect him to have come back in fantastic order with some big spring goals. From barrier eight, he’ll settle in the middle of the field under Jason Collett and make a winning bid late. Ranier seems to race brilliantly at Rosehill (5:3-0-1), so he’ll be in his element on Saturday in this Group 2 event.

Best Value
Tyzone @ $14

Considering we give Ranier a huge chance, we must include Stradbroke winner Tyzone in our numbers at double figures. He flies fresh, having won four from eight after a spell, so we know he will be competitive here. The seven-year-old son of Written Tycoon can do it on any surface, which makes him a genuine betting commodity in an open race. Drawn in barrier three, Jim Byrne will look to land in a lovely spot off the pace and leave plenty in the tank for the final furlong. Tyzone only needs to produce the same finishing burst we saw in the Stradbroke to win this. He has to lug 58.5kg, but he’s earned that right and is drawn beautifully for this.

$100 Betting Strategy
$50 win – Wild Planet
$25 win – Rainer
$25 win – Tyzone
