The Galaxy betting preview

The fifth and final Group 1 on what is set to be a cracking Rosehill card on Saturday is The Galaxy, which sees a quality 14-horse field of sprinters. Run over 1100m, there will be speed to burn early with the likes of Eduardo, Jungle Edge, Easy Eddie, Bella Vella, Tailleur and Haut Brion Her all likely to vie for the early lead. Haut Brion Her is the current $5 favourite, ahead of the firming Tailleur. Eduardo and Wild Ruler sit on $7 a piece in what is a very open race.

There is no secret that we are big fans of four-year-old mare Tailleur. The James Cummings-trained Shooting To Win mare has had eight starts for six wins and two runner-up performances, proving that she is a model of sheer speed and consistency. She was also accepted in the Birthday Card Stakes later in the program, but Cummings elected to give the mare her chance in her maiden Group 1 where she gets in with just 51kg. Drawn ideally in barrier six under Rachel King, she is going to get the run of the race, handy to the speed but with cover and can take full advantage of the featherweight. She has won three from four on heavy going and has the same record over 1100m. It has been six weeks since her good win in the Group 3 Triscay Stakes over 1200m, so she should be fresh to win this.

Haut Brion Her was a beast in the Spring, winning well in the Sheraco Stakes first-up off a lengthy spell and then went on to run fifth in a fast-run TAB Everest and then was narrowly defeated in the Yes Yes Yes Stakes, beaten by Gytrash on a Heavy 9. She flies fresh, has great wet track form and races very well at Rosehill. Her Spring form is what sees her atop the market which is very deserving, and she gets the terrific combination of JMac and Chris Waller. From barrier seven, she will go forward and be right in this for a long way. Two trials in the lead-up to this has her forward enough to be competitive here.

Another galloper that we are big fans of is Peter & Paul Snowden’s three-year-old colt, Wild Ruler. The Snitzel colt was an all-the-way winner first-up in the Listed Fireball Stakes which backed up a solid Spring campaign which saw him win two and run third in the Coolmore Stud Stakes behind September Run and Swat’s That. He is undefeated at both 1100m and at Rosehill, so he will be right at home here, but the wet track is a big query, with almost no exposed form on the wet. Drawn barrier nine, Kerrin McEvoy will take him forward with just 51kg and his tenacity could see him tough it out. The big colt reminds us of the high-school bully; he’s big, imposing and fails to give up on a fight, so he is deserving off a Group 1 win and the stable will be hoping to get one before he heads to stud.
