The Enigmatic Grey Is Back But We Cant Get On!! | Punt Drunk

Punt Drunk | Saturday January 23, 2021

G’day punters how good was it to have Group racing back last night at Moonee Valley? Streets of Avalon was too strong over the 1200m for the small field that was assembled in the Australia Stakes and piled more misery on favourite punters when Viridine could do no better than second.

Saturday is here however, and with 11 local gallops meetings it means there are 87 winners to be found, and with a bit of luck we’ll find one throughout the day!

All Star Mile Voting Is Open

It has been a long time coming, but voting has officially opened for the 2021 All Star Mile. The race worth $5 million is set to run on March 13 at Moonee Valley and with three weeks to get votes in there is plenty of water to go under the bridge before we find out who the top 10 vote getters are. Our boy Kaonic is one of those pushing to get in the top 10 for Neil Dyer, and despite not being one of the bigger names in the ballot we are all for a country horse coming to the big stages and providing a knockout blow to the bigger names! As of 9pm on Friday night Behemoth is the leading vote getter, whilst Arcadia Queen and in a surprise to many Greysful Glamour round out the top three in early votes. Let us know who you think deserves a crack in the 2021 All Star Mile and do not forget to vote for Kaonic!

The Grey Flash Is Back

Just not as we know it. Superstar sprinter Chautauqua is set for his first outing as an equestrian horse following his retirement in 2019 from racing. He is set to compete at the Rob Gaylard Memorial at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre on January 30, and it is safe to say he will have plenty of supporters from the racing industry! With a bit of luck he will be able to trot around more efficiently than what he could jump out of a barrier. Who would have thought we would be excited about an equestrian event? 2020 was a weird year and it is clearly rolling over into 2021. We just have one question, how do we punt on the event and the Grey flash?

On a more serious note:

We love taking the piss out of situations where possible but today we’re putting our arm around a true good bloke in the racing industry. The first is Corey Brown, the former group 1 winning jockey who has been in a battle with work cover following his fall in the Queensland Derby back in 2019. The former jockey has been in constant pain following spinal injuries from that fall in the QLD Derby and was set for some form of pain relief five to six months ago, before Workcover stepped in and put a hold on his operation. It sounds like Workcover is genuinely taking the piss here, this is someone’s life they’re playing with and it’s a dangerous game they’re playing. No need to be such shit blokes in our most humble opinion.
