The Group 3 Bart Cummings presents one of the most interesting betting races of the afternoon at Flemington on Turnbull Stakes Day.

With the big field assembled and many differing formlines, we can rest assured that there will be some value in the money. Run over 2510m at Flemington and with ballot exemption up for grabs in this years’ Melbourne Cup, we can expect a truly run affair set by Rolland Garros, Dabiyr and In Good Health. Shared Ambition starts online bookmaker favourite, ahead of Lord Belvedere, Schabau and Steel Prince. This race has seen Almandin complete the Bart Cummings/Melbourne Cup double in recent years and last year was won by Surprise Baby who went on to race very well in “The Cup”.

Despite expecting that there will be some value in and around the money, we are siding with the favourite here. Shared Ambition is undefeated in Melbourne and has a very impressive Flemington win to his name on Cup Day last year. Finally out in trip to 2500m and having drawn a good gate, he should take a power of beating. Drawn in nine under Craig Williams, we expect to see him settle much closer than he has been at unsuitable distances in Sydney during the Autumn and so far this Spring. He is the best stayer in this race, and out over a suitable distance will be right up his alley. Shared Ambition should book his ticket for the first Tuesday in November.

Four-year-old entire Persan appeals each way here at around $12.00 with the best horse betting sites. The son of Pierro only just missed last start behind Lord Belvedere, running second by 0.2L which was his only defeat at this course. He won three in a row earlier this campaign at Flemington, including a dominant victory over 2500m. Barrier one will see him settle just off the speed with Jye McNeil aboard and will be making a strong last second bid. Being one of the youngest horses in the race, he has plenty of raw ability and lots of upside which will see him competitive.

Eight-year-old entire Sound can pop-up at a big price here under Jamie Kah from barrier three. He has run in two Melbourne Cups and placed last campaign in the Group 1 Auckland Cup which is brilliant form for this. Kah can be a bit more positive on the son of Lando here and be fighting out the finish. He came to Australia a few years back and bought with him excellent German form, but has failed to put it all together down here so far. He only just missed last start at The Valley behind Creedence and can find more improvement here over 2510m at Flemington. He is due for a win and can add value to wider exotics.
