Tea Rose Stakes 2020 betting tips, odds & form

Hungry Heart
Hungry Heart is the market elect for Saturday’s Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes at Royal Randwick.

The majority of the three-year-old fillies lining up in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes this Saturday have come through both the Silver Shadow and the Furious Stakes en route to the Group 1 Flight Stakes. Hungry Heart is the even-money favourite after returning in brilliant fashion last start when second to Dame Giselle, who also runs here. Montefilia is the only other runner in single figures. There should be a fair bit of speed engaged, with Every Rose, Vangelic, Miraville and Dame Giselle all go-forward horses.

Saturday racing tips for 2020 Tea Rose Stakes

Best Bet
Hungry Heart @ $2 Sportsbet

Hungry Heart really attacked the line in her first-up placing in the Furious Stakes, and that runs suggests she’ll appreciate the 1400m here. She’s drawn beautifully in barrier three to park behind the speed for James McDonald and hit top speed 100m from the post. Her four career runs have all been very encouraging, with her fifth in the Golden Slipper being the only time she has finished out of the money. The well-bred filly (Frankel x Harlech) will only get better as she gets out over a trip and will take some serious beating wherever she goes. She looks a clear standout here.

Next Best
Dame Giselle @ $2.90 Sportsbet

Dame Giselle has done everything she’s been asked to do so far this campaign, winning both legs of the Darley Princess Series. The I Am Invincible filly is very fast and has been brilliant in winning her two runs over 1200m this prep, but the rise to 1400m makes this the longest race she has contested in her career. She’ll settle prominently under Tommy Berry and be right in the finish, but we think she might just be found out the last little bit and struggle to match motors with Hungry Heart in the final furlong.

Best Value
Thermosphere @ $20 Sportsbet

It’s almost a copy-paste job from the Furious Stakes, as we have gone with the same top three here. Godolphin’s Thermosphere let us down when eighth of 11 last time out, but she didn’t have the tempo to suit her. There should be a bit more speed in this race, which should give her enough momentum to get going late. Up to 1400m is a big plus, and the booking of Nash Rawiller is another positive. From barrier 11, we’d expect to see her settle just worse than midfield on the back of one and work home strongly. Given she is by Exosphere out of a Canny Lad mare, we’d imagine 1400m-2000m will be her pet distance.
