Tavago on track for delayed return

Australian Derby winner Tavago has finished second in a barrier trial at Cranbourne after his Memsie Stakes plans had to be scrapped.

The four-year-old failed to eat up after losing a tooth and had to be scratched from Saturday’s Group One race at Caulfield.

Co-trainer Natalie Young said Tavago would be nominated for Saturday’s Group Two Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes but was more likely to run the following week in the Makybe Diva.

Young and training partner Trent Busuttin had their first winner from their new training base at Cranbourne on Sunday when Old Farm Road broke his maiden at his home track.

He was the second runner for the New Zealand partnership since the pair made the permanent move to Australia a few weeks ago.
