Tattersall’s Cup tips & best bets – Saturday, 13 June 2020

Eagle Farm

As was the case in the Chairman’s Handicap a fortnight ago, Sydney trainer Chris Waller has six runners – including the top five market elects – engaged in the Group 3 Tattersall’s Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm this Saturday. Kubis and Another Dollar will push forward from their wide gates, with Brimham Rocks and Fighting Teo settling just behind.

Saturday racing tips for Tattersall’s Cup 2020

Best Bet
Shraaoh @ $12

We were with Waller’s Shraaoh in the Chairman’s two weeks ago when he finished really well into sixth at the triple-figure quote, and that has given us enough confidence to side with the Sea The Stars gelding again at around the $12. It’s been a long time between drinks for the 7yo, but he is now third up, getting out to 2400m and onto the big Eagle Farm track for the first time, which we think he will appreciate. Waller elected to try the blinkers with him last start for the first time and he will wear them again tomorrow. Luke Dittman will go back from barrier 10, but look for him working home very strongly for us late.

Next Best
Another Dollar @ $3.90

Race favourite Another Dollar drops 3kg here from the Chairman’s Handicap. She finished third in that race, which will be a big advantage over some key rivals here. Jim Byrne will more than likely go forward on the Ocean Park mare from barrier 12, which should suit as there isn’t a great deal of speed on paper. The Waller-trained mare was a brilliant winner of the Listed Gosford Cup a month ago and should be at peak fitness fourth up. It’ll be the mare’s first race start beyond 2000m, which is a slight query, but she has the form to be good enough here.

Best Value
Brimham Rocks @ $5.50

He had the first six past the post in the Chairman’s, so we see no reason why Waller can’t go close to doing it again here. Brimham Rocks was beaten just over three lengths in that race, but was caught three wide for the entire trip and did relatively well to stick on like he did. Up to the 2400m will suit perfectly, as the gelding has finished in the quinella seven times over this trip (13:2-5-0). Three of those seconds at the mile-and-a-half include the Group 1 Metropolitan, Group 2 Herbert Power and Group 3 Bendigo Cup, which is certainly good form for a race like this. Drawn in barrier 1, Ryan Maloney will get a lovely run behind the speed and be finishing strongly over the top. The Fastnet Rock gelding has been well backed early, shortening from $8.50 to around the $5.50 mark with most online bookmakers.
