IT’S safe to say there was no money for Kanga’s Eye on debut in the Gimcrack Stakes, but that won’t be the case when it returns to racing at Rosehill this Saturday.

The Anthony and Edward Cummings-trained two-year-old will resume in the Tab 2YO Handicap having finished second in the Gimcrack Stakes on debut at massive odds of $81, but after positive signs at the trials, it has been smashed into $5.50 at CrownBet.com.au.

The stable believes it has an enormous amount of ability and after blowing the start on debut, just to finish second against a quality field was a credit to its potential.

“She’s had one start for an unlucky second in the Gimcrack,” Anthony Cummings said.

“She showed undoubted ability that day and that hasn’t gone away.

“She’s come back in very good order from Turranga and we are just looking forward to seeing her get to the races, winning a bit of prizemoney and hopefully getting ready for some stakes races when the time comes.

“It’s hard not to have a bit of an opinion of her after her first run.”

It hasn’t been smooth sailing since, with the filly suffering some minor setbacks in its bid to return to the track.

“She came back and just had a few aches and pains so we elected to take the conservative view and give her a bit more time,” Cummings said. “She’s not perfect in front so we just had to be a bit more careful that’s all.

“We just want to make sure her race craft is right on Saturday.

“We need to get into some of these races and get some practice and then take aim at some stakes races after that.”

Cummings is confident its barrier manners are under control after producing two impressive trial efforts.

“We’ve done a bit of work with her from the barrier since and she’s much better because she was a bit nervy but she’s fine. Her trials attest to that pretty well,” he said.

“We’ve drawn well on Saturday and she’s hit the line nicely in her trials so we’ll just ride her where she’s comfortable.

“She finished off pretty powerfully in those so I don’t think it matters too much where she settles just as long as she gets out of the gates properly.”
