Group Three winner Sun City, a son of Zoustar, will stand his first season at stud in Queensland.
The new Queensland breeding season is taking shape with Sun City, the first son of top sire Zoustar to stand in the state, joining the Telemon Thoroughbreds roster.
Sun City, a Group Three winner, will stand for $7,700 this coming season beside another young stallion in Sidestep who has already got a Golden Slipper winner in Kiamichi.
Multiple Group One-winning sire Jungle Cat will also stand at Telemon, near Beaudesert south of Brisbane.
By Zoustar out of Roulettes, Sun City was bought by his trainer Tony McEvoy and David Redvers for $525,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
A Flying Spur mare, Roulettes is a half-sister to stakes winner Royal Discretion and her sister Tactfully has already produced Listed winner Vezalay.
Sun City was second in the Listed Maribyrnong Trial (1000m) and Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1110m), before winning the Group Three McLachlan Stakes (1200m).
A leg infection put paid to his Magic Millions and Golden Slipper hopes.
Telemon Thoroughbreds boss Darren Fletcher said Sun City was ideal for the Queensland breeding industry.
“He burst on the scene as an early two-year-old and looked like he had the world at his feet.
“Unfortunately, he suffered a non-congenital injury when he jumped the crossing following his win in the BJ McLachlan,” Fletcher said.
“We’re confident we have found the right balance for our sites. The fees we have set are a reflection of the quality of our stallions while recognising the current difficult economic conditions.”

Kiamichi’s Golden Slipper win has prompted an increase in the service fee of her sire Sidestep.
Telemon Thoroughbreds has announced Sidestep, the sire of Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi, will stand at a higher service fee next season.
Sidestep, who is standing at Telemon in a two-year deal with Darley, will have a fee of $22,000 and be eligible for the QTIS.
Runner-up to Overreach in the 2013 Golden Slipper, Sidestep stood for $7700 last year.
He currently leads both the first season sires and two-Year-old sires’ tables following the Golden Slipper victory of Kiamichi on Saturday.
Telemon general manager Joe Heather said Darley and Telemon were committed to making Sidestep available to Queensland breeders.
“We’ve been absolutely inundated with support for Sidestep since Saturday, and we want to be able to give our clients certainty regarding their mating plans for 2019. The reaction has been great,” Heather said.
“It is wonderful to see the success of the horse and what he has done in such a short period of time and we’re really excited about the season ahead and the quality of mares he will attract.”
Sidestep served 57 mares in his first season in Queensland and is expected to get many more in his second.
]]>Telemon Thoroughbreds is set to take over one of the state’s former best-known stud properties and begin operations in June.
The property has housed several studs since the 1990s including Noble Park and Racetree Stud.
It has been the home of top sires such as Success Express, Mossman, Written Tycoon and Bel Esprit.
In an arrangement with Godolphin Australia, Sidestep, a dual Group Two winning sprinter and runner-up in the 2013 Golden Slipper will stand at Telemon.
Telemon owner Dan Fletcher said it was a privilege to offer a stallion of the calibre of Sidestep.
“He’d be one of the best two-year-olds to stand up here in my time. The other horses that were at a similar level at two include Written Tycoon, General Nediym, Show A Heart and Brave Warrior and they all made a massive impact.” Fletcher said.
Managing director of Godolphin Australia Vin Cox said it was an exciting opportunity for all breeders in Queensland.
“I know the quality of the farm where he’ll be standing from my time in Queensland so that was a huge attraction,” Cox said.
Sidestep will stand at $7700 in his first Queensland season after completing stud duties in Europe.
