2020 TAB Trophy Stakes Horse Betting Preview

The Group Listed TAB Trophy Stakes will mark the halfway mark of the Melbourne Cup card and has a field of 13 involved for a 1800 metre race worth $175,000 for the three year olds. With plenty of form lines to tie in, it looks to be a thoroughly competitive race as usual despite a short priced favourite.

The TAB Trophy Stakes is set to jump 1:20pm AEDT.

2020 TAB Trophy Stakes Runner-By-Runner Guide

#1 Confrontational (8)

After taking out the listed Geelong Classic, Jason Warren’s colt drops back to 1800 metres and looks well placed at big odds to keep building on his impressive record to date. From barrier eight Noel Callow will have a decision to make on where he settles his mount, but looks likely to be towards the back of the field with the favourite. Connections opted to bypass the derby and pinpointed this race not long after his last start win. He goes up a kilogram off his last win, and looks to be a big danger to the favourite if he can match the Freedman’s colts turn of foot.

#2 Ain’tnodeeldun (10)

Anthony Freedman enlists the services of Damian Lane again as they look to build on his impressive form this time in. He was a dominant winner when taking out the listed Hill Smith Stakes at Morphettville three weeks ago, and his form was franked on Derby Day with the runner up in that race going on to defeat a couple of gallopers on a Victorian Oaks path. He looked far from a winning hope when cornering at Morphettville, but produced a quick turn of foot to take over with 150 metres to go and did enough to hold out Victoria Quay.

#3 Acrophobic (12)

John O’Shea will be hoping a trip to Melbourne will help turn around the disappointing form of his talented 3YO colt. Based on the fact he has now failed twice on raina affected ground, we’re happy to forgive his last start efforts and still include him in any exotics. Two starts ago he ran to within a length of the ever impressive Peltzer in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick, who would be a short priced favourite in this if he was to go around. He has not been far beaten in his other three runs this campaign and will benefit racing back on a firmer track.

#4 Trodaire (11)

Scratched

#5 Ultimate Edition (4)

After destroying his rival at Bendigo four weeks ago, the Ledger trained gelding was sent around a well backed favourite for the Geelong Classic. He wanted to get the race over and done with and Damian Lane struggled to keep him calm throughout the race and inevitably dropped out towards the finish after over-racing throughout. If he can run up to the form he had shown prior to the Geelong Classic, he will prove hard to chase down.

#6 Charmed Individual (13)

A last start Benalla maiden winner takes the big step up to a Listed race on Cup day for the Busuttin and Young team. He gave nothing else a chance when an all the way leader at Benalla and maps to be up on speed with the likes of Ultimate Edition throughout. The big question is can he handle some of the other gallopers who clearly have a touch more class than him? If he can, then he is one to add into your exotics a big price.

#7 Dubawi Prince (1)

The second of the Busuttin and Young runners coming off a country level maiden win, this time at Echuca. William Pike retains the ride on the Pride Of Dubai colt, and despite drawing barrier one this looks like an uphill battle for the colt at this stage in his career.

#8 Grinzinger Lord (6)

The Danny O’Brien gelding is slowly becoming a costly runner considering she is still a maiden after two starts when going around as well backed odds-on chances. He showed enough last start to say he will handle the extra 200 metres after he peaked in the late stages to only find again and be beaten a head at Kilmore. The in-form Damien Oliver retains the ride and will look to use barrier six to his advantage to get his mount up on speed.

#9 Horrifying (5)

Scratched

#10 Newzeel Deal (10)

The Cindy Alderson trained Dundeel colt will get the opportunity to race on a good track for the first time in his career. All three starts in his career have been on Heavy 9 tracks, and has shown plenty of ability in his two starts this campaign. At Bendigo a fortnight ago he was last entering the home straight but let down with an impressive turn of foot to go down by a neck on the line. He looks to be the backmarker of the field, and if he can get a tail to chase heading into the home straight, then he may be worth throwing into any exotics.

#11 Made By Khan (3)

Matt Laurie and Ethan Brown will look to build on the impressive start to this gelding’s career which has seen him finish runner up in both career starts thus far. He was drifting in the market when second up at Cranbourne three weeks ago and found one better after racing up on speed throughout. He’s another galloper who will get on to a good track for the first time and will benefit from that immensely.

#12 Miss Madec (7)

Ben Brisbourne’s filly drops back out of the Group 2 Fillies Classic at The Valley where she settled towards the rear in the running and had too much ground to make up on some impressive fillies. From barrier seven she should be able to get some cover in the race and if Lewis German can get a bit of luck in the home straight she has shown in the past that she possesses a quick turn of foot.

#13 La Marsa (9)

Michelle Payne trains and will ride this filly who was able to beat home Miss Madec when they clashed in the Fillies Classic at The Valley. All four of her career starts have been on soft going, and is another one who will appreciate getting onto a firmer track. She drops two kilograms from her last run, but we still think she will find this a tough assignment in the search to break her maiden.

Kilmore Racing Betting Preview

It’s Seymour Cup on Sunday, where a nine race card will be held at Kilmore for punters to round out a fantastic week of racing in Victoria. It will be the 21st running of the Seymour Cup, and as stated in our preview it will be the first running on rain affected ground since the inaugural race.

At the time of writing the track had come up a Soft 5, and the rail is in the true position throughout. The first race of the day jumps at 1pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 3 – Grinzinger Lord (#10) $2.10 with Sportsbet

The Danny O’Brien 3YO gelding was sent around an odds on favourite on debut at Geelong but was well beaten by the second elect in the market. He’ll go around at similar odds on Sunday, and looks like he’ll have too much class for this field. He maps to settle midfield from barrier 11 and with Damien Oliver retaining the ride, he rates highly and should take a power of holding out.

Next BestRace 6 – Yulong Storm (#2) $3.10 with Sportsbet

Craig Newitt gets back on board this consistent 5YO gelding for Nathan Hobson, who he has a thoroughly impressive strike rate with. He’s yet to run outside of the quinella with Newitt on board for three wins and a second. He was well held last time out when lugging a big weight behind a couple of handy types at Bendigo a fortnight ago, but still chased on solidly. He’ll settle midfield and should have a bit of class on side to get punters off to a popular start in the quaddie.

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1351314_06]
Best ValueRace 5 – Snows Bro (#4) $12.00 & $3.70 with Sportsbet

Scott Cameron’s 6YO gelding scored at around the same quote last time out on Heavy going at Geelong three weeks ago and did so in style. He’ll settle in the middle of the pack and should have enough in the tank to be fighting out the finish, he also has three wins on rain affected ground, so the sting out of the ground will not bother him.
