Sweynesse to stand at New Zealand stud

Godolphin horse Sweynesse has been retired and is to stand at New Zealand’s Novara Park Stud.

Manager Ray Knight said the son of Lonhro met the stud’s criteria as an Australian Group One performer on pedigree and type.

“Sweynesse is the highest-rated stallion from the Zabeel sire line to begin stud duties in New Zealand since Savabeel,” Knight told NZ Thoroughbred Marketing.

“Sweynesse was a legitimate Group One performer and he has the looks and pedigree to complete a quality package.”

A winner at two, the John O’Shea-trained Sweynesse claimed two Group Three victories as a spring three-year-old in the Spring Stakes and Gloaming Stakes.

He then finished third in the 2014 Group One Spring Champion Stakes won by Hampton Court.

He will stand at Novara Park alongside European Group One winner Jakkalberry who finished third in the 2012 Melbourne Cup won by Green Moon.

Sweynesse’s last appearance was in the 2015 Epsom Handicap when he was unplaced in the race won by Winx.
