Friday afternoon at the Swan Hill races sounds perfect, but alas we will be punting from our couches. With eight races set down for judgement and the first set to run at 1:30pm AEST, we will be looking to build up the bank for Saturday’s Flemington meeting. We are racing on a Good 4 for what looks a tricky card to pick.
Friday racing tips for Swan Hill
Race 5 – Maserartie Bay @ $1.45 Sportsbet
Ciaron Maher and David Eustace seem to have found what works for this 4YO gelding, considering he has won his last two outings quite convincingly. There are no prizes for picking him out as the best tip on the card, but how could we go past him? He settled towards the back of the field last start here and responded when asked for effort. He still has plenty to learn, which is encouraging and indicates he will be able to go on with it here. John Allen, who has three wins from five starts on the galloper, will have plenty of options from barrier five. The obvious danger is Matt Cumani’s Converging (#2).
Race 1 – Silk Jacket @ $1.90 Sportsbet
Is Friday at Swan Hill finally the time for Silk Jacket to break her maiden? We’re hoping so, considering she has run second in four of her last five starts. From barrier five, she maps to be one out, one back, and if Fred Kersley can get her to settle, there should not be too many excuses for this 4YO mare. A big boost came from the scratching of market rival Clever Approach (#1) on Thursday afternoon. If Silk Jacket can run up to what she has shown throughout this campaign, she should be too good for this lot.
Race 8 – Black Opal @ $12/$3.50 EW Sportsbet
A wide-open 975m race to close out the card sees Black Opal popping up at nice each-way odds. This 5YO gelding for John Moloney has an impressive first-up record of 3: 1-1-1, so there is plenty going for him. He will lead this field up with a bit of luck and hopefully can dig in when asked for another effort.
