Super Seth impresses in Caulfield victory

Super Seth (left) has made an immediate impression on the racetrack with a dashing win at Caulfield.

The Anthony Freedman stable has another smart young horse on their hands, with two-year-old colt Super Seth storming home at Caulfield to remain unbeaten.

Super Seth made an immediate impression with a six-length win on debut in a Ballarat maiden late last month and backed it up in his first city assignment in Saturday’s Ern Jensen Funerals Handicap (1200m).

With Clayton Douglas aboard from an inside draw, the $1.65 favourite was back near-last coming to the home turn and had to angle out before getting clear running on the outside early in the home straight.

Super Seth finished in the style of a horse on-the-rise to win by a length over Stand To Attention ($20), with another 1-3/4-lengths to Lucifer’s Reward ($61) third.

“It was always going to be very tricky for him because it wasn’t the draw we really wanted,” Freedman said.

“But I just said to Clayton, ‘don’t panic. I don’t mind where you are and just trust that the horse can do it’.

“As it turned out, it was a pretty big win in the end to do what he did. But he kept him moving and kept his momentum up so I thought that was the key.”

Super Seth is the latest city winning two-year-old from the stable this season which has been highlighted by star filly Lyre who won the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes and placed in the Golden Slipper.

I Am Immortal is another dual stakes-winning juvenile from the stable while talented filly Meuse won at Caulfield last Saturday.

Promising colt Chenier is high up in markets for next Saturday’s Group One Champagne Stakes but Freedman said he was leaning to instead sending that colt to the paddock for a spell, with a final decision to be made on Monday.

Super Seth could press on to the Brisbane carnival for races such as the Sires’ Produce Stakes and Group One J J Atkins Stakes.

The Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on April 25 is another option, as is heading for a spell.
