Seven races will be run and won at Corbould Park on Friday evening. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail is out +2m from the 1200m-400m but set the true for the remainder of the course. Race 1 will jump at 6:15pm AEST.
Chris Munce and Larry Cassidy combine with four-year-old mare Iconista in this 1400m Benchmark 65. She will lead from barrier four and could get a very easy time of it, which will hold her in good stead for the final furlong. She’s had just the one start at this track when nailed on the post to miss in a photo. The form around her has been very solid, with three subsequent winners coming out of her last start at Ipswich. She should lead all the way here.
Liza With A Zee bolted in first up last campaign, winning by 3.5L at Doomben, before finishing 4.55L off September Run at the same track. That horse won the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, beating some of the nation’s best three-year-old sprinters. Ben Thompson takes the ride and will go forward on the filly from barrier seven. While there does look to be a fair bit of speed in the race, she should be able to either settle outside of runners and find cover, or use her early gate speed to land on the bunny. Her form stands out like no other.
We gave a good push for Elgin last start, and he ran a bold race to finish third. He is starting to become costly for punters, given he has had 20 career starts for zero wins and 10 placings, but he stays at each-way odds and could offer some value. He settled further back than we expected last time, and he may have to go back to near last again from barrier 15 under under Sean Cormack. We sense he is getting close to that maiden win, and this might be the day at a healthy quote.
