Summit reached as inaugural Everest $10 million race sold out
IN a massive coup for Racing NSW, all 12 slots for October’s inaugural $10 million The Everest race at Royal Randwick in Sydney have been sold.
The event was lambasted in racing circles after Racing NSW announced the 12 slots in the race would be sold for $1.8 million across three years, but the news that the slots are all gone is a massive boost for the racing body.
Racing NSW boss Peter V’landys took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to announce the positive news.

Joint favourites at the head of Ladbrokes.com.au’s all-in market, She Will Reign and Chautauqua ($8) have already been confirmed as starters, while Houtzen (+1400 at Ladbrokes.com.au) has also been tipped take part in The Everest.

Superstar sprinter Chautauqua’s managing owner Rupert Legh said one of the horse’s shareholders – who wished to remain anonymous – had contacted him about securing an Everest slot, as a long-term investment over three years.
The co-owner asked Leigh if the other owners would be interested in following his bold plan.
“I rang around and everyone agreed to do that,” Leigh told Melbourne radio station RSN927.
“His idea was he didn’t want to be sharing it with anyone else.
“We own the horse, so why don’t we pay the fee and give ourselves the chance of winning it and picking up the whole prize.”
Leigh said the seven-year-old Chautauqua has the ability to back up and race in the 2018 edition of the race, but was sceptical as to whether the dual TJ Smith Stakes winner could back up for a third.
“The biggest problem is there could be another Chautauqua, a two-year-old, coming through the ranks this year,”
