Summer aims for Global Glamour, Fabrizio
After a spring campaign to remember with two Group One wins, star filly Global Glamour is already building up towards her next big target.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly claimed a Group One double on consecutive Saturdays in October, winning the Flight Stakes at Randwick and the Thousand Guineas in Melbourne.
The $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) in January is her next target.
“She’s back in and just taking it easy heading towards a Magic Millions preparation,” Bott said.
“The plan with her after her Thousand Guineas win was to give her a short let-up and bring her back and target her towards the Magic Millions three-year-old race in January.”
Another horse from the stable who has an important summer assignment is the lightly raced five-year-old gelding Fabrizio, an impressive Listed winner over 1800m at Flemington on November 1.
“He just had a very short let-up after the Melbourne carnival and is back in the stable and we’re going to attempt to target him at The Villiers in December,” Bott said.
The $250,000 Group Two Villiers Stakes (1600m) is at Randwick on December 17 with the winner earning a ballot exemptionfor the $3 million Group One Doncaster Mile in April.
“It was a nice freshen-up for him but he’s kept ticking over and is thriving at present and enjoying his racing,” Bott said.
“The plan would be to try to win the Villiers and qualify him for the Doncaster.”
Bott said the progressive gelding, a winner of seven of his 11 starts, was the ideal type to be aimed feature handicaps such as the Doncaster.
Waterhouse, who formed a training partnership with Bott at the start of this season, has won the Doncaster seven times, a record she shares with her late father, TJ Smith.
“He just looks like the type of horse who reminds Gai so much of some of those types of horses she has had a lot of success with previously,” Bott said.
