Sukwhinder continues deluxe run for Costa

Sukwhinder has finished strongly to beat Niedorp in the TAB Handicap at Eagle Farm.

Gold Coast trainer Michael Costa’s admiration for sire Delago Deluxe continued to grow after filly Sukwhinder scored an impressive win at Eagle Farm.

Sukwhinder ($17) finished strongly beat Niedorp ($4.40) by a half length in the TAB Handicap (1000m).

The filly was having her first run after finishing sixth in the Inglis Challenge at Scone in early May.

She is by Delago Deluxe, a son of champion sire Encosta De Lago, out of the broodmare Danagail, making her a sister to Shishaq who scored at Lismore by six lengths on Monday.

Costa’s stable representation Michael Morrison said the stable had a big opinion of horses they had by Delago Deluxe who was recently bought by stable clients.

“Sukwhinder has always shown ability and her run at Scone was very good, She had along preparation just to get there,” Morrison said.

“She stumbled out of the barriers and was three deep the whole way so it was a good effort.

“To come from barrier ten today was extra good and her brother won by six on Monday so we are happy with the breed.”

Delago Deluxe has stood in Queensland since 2014 with limited numbers of runners.

Trainer Tony Gollan was happy with Niedorp who had to be ridden along to lead from the outside barrier.

“She gave a good kick in the straight so it was a good run,” Gollan said.

Niedorp is likely to head to Melbourne in the next fortnight for fillies and mares races.
