Stunning Star Hills win delights Browell

THE city beckons for well-bred two-year-old Star Hills, which torched the field in the third race on the card at Donald on debut for trainer Allen Browell.

In a race where Darren Weir colt Invincible King was expected to dominate, the Browell gelding found the front midway down the straight and delivered a sensational turn of foot to hammer the field and return $9.40 at Sportsbet.com.au.

Mick Price colt Liu Bei finished off well to return $1.50 at WilliamHill.com.au , while Weir’s galloper Invincible King rounded out the placings but did not return a dividend.

An excited Browell told HorseBetting.com.au post-race that there are no concrete plans for his gelding despite the strong showing.

“What’d you reckon about that? I definitely can’t complain about that, let me tell you,” the trainer said.

“But we’re just getting to let the dust settle on this one, we have no plans and we’re going to see how it pans out, but it was a good win.”

The Price and Weir pair were the only runners under the $3 quote in the market, but Browell said the lack of support from punters did not worry him in the slightest.

“You can only worry about your own horses mate, I don’t worry about what the others are doing at all.

“Best not to worry about anyone else, you just worry about your own.”

There is little doubt that Star Hills is destined for the metropolitan races, however, and Browell is inclined to agree.

Bred out of dam Two Hills, which forged a strong career in Melbourne after earning just shy of half a million dollars, Browell believes he may have an even better prospect on his hands following Saturday’s win.

“The mother won just over $300,000 and she won three in Melbourne, so there’s no reason to think this bloke can’t do the same.

“He’s probably better than her to be honest, so we’ll be taking him to the city when he’s ready.”
