Strasbourg wins BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes
Strasbourg will be a late nomination for the JJ Atkins after winning a lead-up race at Eagle Farm.
Well-bred colt Strasbourg will have a belated chance to win a Group One after his strong win in the Group Two BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.
Co-trainers Peter and Paul Snowden had originally hoped Strasbourg would be a genuine Group One Golden Slipper horse but he failed to make the field.
Instead, Strasbourg was taken to Brisbane with Group Two juvenile races, the Champagne Classic and the BRC Sires’, as his two main targets.
He ran second in the Champagne Classic and then came out and beat the favourite Accession ($3.80) by a neck in the Sires’.
Strasbourg is not entered for the Group One JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm on June 8.
“But provided he comes up well after this run we will be putting in a late nomination,.” Snowden said.
Strasbourg is a $750,000 colt by top sire I Am Invincible and a Group One win would boost his value as a stallion.
Peter Snowden had won the race with Fravashi in 2009 and then in partnership with his son Paul with Attention in 2016.
“We had hopes for him as a Golden Slipper horse but a Brisbane Group One obviously be great,” Snowden said.
“We took blinkers off him today and put on winkers and he got to the line very strongly.”
Tommy Berry completed a winning double on Strasbourg and said he had decided to get going earlier than planned.
“But I knew I had plenty of horse under me,” he said.
James McDonald said Accession had also hit the line hard and was looking for 1600m.
