The final race on the Moir Stakes card is by no means an easy one to decipher, as the Group 2 Stocks Stakes over the mile attracts what is essentially a Group 1 field. Most punters will be looking at the ‘Wizard of the West’ to help them in the get-out stakes, with Perfect Jewel coming up a short-priced favourite for Grant and Alana Williams. Mystic Journey and Aristia also bring plenty of class to this race. Although the favourite is well supported at $2.50, there looks to be some nice value around to help punters build a bank for Underwood Stakes Day at Caulfield.
Friday racing tips for 2020 Stocks Stakes
Sydney-based galloper Greysful Glamour returned in fine form when going down a length to Dreamforce in the Group 2 Tramway Stakes. The 5YO mare likes to take up the running, so she might be able to clock some cheap sectionals in a race with not much speed on. She rates highly with Jamie Kah on board and has raced superbly whenever she’s come to Melbourne. She has won over further and perhaps may be suited to a longer trip, but she should have an easy time of it out in front by herself. We’re happy to take the $6.50 on offer, and that price may get better on race night.
Mystic Journey had excuses last start when pulling up lame after the Memsie Stakes. The Tasmanian star has been quite disappointing since taking out the PB Lawrence Stakes in August last year, but she has predominantly been racing in Group 1 events against genuine guns. She will look to settle two pairs off the speed at a distance where she is yet to run outside of the quinella. The forecasted rain should not deter punters, as she has two wins from three starts on soft going. If you can forgive her first two runs this spring, Mystic Journey looks over the odds here.
She might prefer a longer trip, but this lightly raced mare looks like one to follow throughout the spring. Realm Of Flowers’ last run at Cranbourne looked to be one to blow out the cobwebs, while she is yet to miss a placing when second up. She was quite impressive throughout the winter in South Australia. This backmarker will appreciate the genuine tempo expected from Greysful Glamour, while a wet track would do her chances no harm at all.
