Stockdale hoping a Thursday night win will boost Sintara’s value

A HORSE’S value is invariably rated on the win and placing column, and for Shane Stockdale’s gelding Sintara that theory is about to be put to the test.

Following Sintara’s run on Thursday night in the Doogood Powder Handicap Class One at Pakenham, Stockdale revealed that the talented prospect will head to the 2017 Inglis March Sale.

When asked what is on the horizon for Sintara, Stockdale said the future focus for the four-year-old is Friday’s Inglis sale.

“The horizon for this horse is a big sale on Friday,” Stockdale told Horsebetting.com.au.

“Quite possibly he will be sold on Friday… so a big run on Thursday night to increase the value on Friday would be good.”

If the form continues for Sintara, a win on Thursday night is not outside of its reach.

Outside of a disappointing second half of the field finish at Pakenham at the beginning of February, the gelding has not missed the first four in its last five runs, which included a win and three placings.

Across its last two runs the gelding has not finished outside the top two. The win at Swan Hill on March 3 underlined the potential the horse has after toughing it out to the line.

Stockdale said the galloper is in great shape going into Thursday night’s class one handicap.

“He’s in good form and in good order,” the trainer said.

“It’s probably a step up in class from his Swan Hill win and his Edenhope placing, but his runs at both of those places have been very good.”

This will be the horse’s third attempt at the Pakenham track, where it has failed to place previously.

The poor record does not discourage Stockdale however, who believes the track and distance will play into Sintara’s strengths on Thursday night.

“The 1200m around Pakenham is a big track so it should suit him.”

The last start for Sintara was an encouraging second placing behind Flo Fo, where it only missed out by half a length.

Despite the strong showing, Stockdale said his runner had excuses after failing to salute on the 11th.

“His Edenhope run was very good.”

The trainer was left to bemoan a mid-race move from a rival runner which halted the momentum of Sintara, but was still full of praise for jockey Billy Egan.

“He was ridden well but did not have much luck though, Billy Egan allowed a horse to cross him and that horse slowed up and got our horse over-racing up on the bit, so he sort of did things a bit hard for a while.

“Then he had to quicken, and he was good on the line, he went through the line strong.

“So it was a good run.”
