Stay-at-home Centuri to figure at Doomben

Trainer Stuart Kendrick is sure he made the right decision by scrapping a trip to Sydney with promising filly Divine Centuri.

The filly was entered for the Group Three PJ Bell Stakes at Randwick last Saturday but Kendrick decided not to make the trip after Divine Centuri was made first emergency.

Instead, she will race at Doomben on Saturday.

“As it turned out she would have got a run in Sydney. But she had the outside barrier at Randwick, the track was wet and you never knew how it was going to play,” Kendrick said.

“It would have been a long way to go for nothing. The better option by far was to stay home and chase the money here on Saturday.”

Kendrick said he was like a lot of trainers with their young horses heading into the winter carnival.

“I have a very big opinion of Divine Centuri but she has to confirm that in races. There are a few good races for her the winter if things go her way,” he said.

“It is a nice race for her on Saturday and barrier eight isn’t a total disaster.”

Divine Centuri has the bloodlines to get further than Saturday’s 1050m, being by top sire I Am Invincible out of an Encosta De Lago mare.
