2020 Stan Fox Stakes betting preview
The 1500m Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes for three-year-olds has attracted a small field of six. Peltzer currently sits at the top of the market ahead of Jet Propulsion and Prime Star. Sammy is the only runner in double figures. Peltzer looks the leader on paper, while Global Quest, Acrophobic and Sammy will be in the back half of the field. We see this race fairly similarly to the market and so won’t be getting too involved in the betting.
Jet Propulsion goes on top for us after he boxed on really well at this distance last start when third behind Mo’unga. A month between runs will have done him the world of good as he steps into his fourth career start. We imagine Tommy Berry will look to push him forward from barrier four, sit outside the leader and be strong late.
Peltzer is the clear class runner in the field and drops back from Group 1 level after the Golden Rose, which is cracking form for this. He wasn’t disgraced in that race, running fifth behind Caulfield Guineas favourite Ole Kirk, so he must be respected. We are slightly concerned that he hasn’t recovered from his first-up effort behind Anders when he was run into the ground, while Kerrin McEvoy hops off for the first time in the horse’s career. He will lead from barrier two and should have enough class take him a long way.
Prime Star is the best of the rest. The Inglis Millennium winner had a forgive run first up before winning at his next start against a field that included Destination, who has since run very well. He was no match for Athiri last time out, and she has franked that form by winning on the weekend just gone. McEvoy takes the ride for the first time and will be prominent in the run from the outside alley. Good job if you got on when Prime Star was still paying over $8, as he will be every chance here.
