Stakes race test for Andrassy at Caulfield

Andrassay has already given her trainer two milestone wins and Allison Sheehan is hoping the mare can rack up another at Caulfield.

Andrassy brought up the Cranbourne trainer’s maiden city success last year while at her most recent start she gave Sheehan her first Saturday metropolitan winner.

That latest victory was in a $50,000 benchmark race and on Saturday Andrassy will be shooting for an open mare’s race worth $80,000 which would be Sheehan’s biggest win.

If all goes to plan in the No Fuss Event Hire Handicap (1100m), Andrassy could be Adelaide bound for the Group Three Proud Miss Stakes at Morphettville on May 21.

“We’re stepping her up in grade on Saturday with an aim of looking towards a stakes race in Adelaide,” Sheehan said.

“The aim this preparation is to get some black type, then she might have a bit of a freshen-up and we can have a look at the early spring in July and August.”

The trainer is also a hobby breeder and races Andrassy’s brother Jawsome, a recent Pakenham winner.

Sheehan is hands-on with her small team. She rides Andrassy in most of her work and says the mare has improved since her first-up Caulfield win on April 16.

“She had a grass gallop on Tuesday morning and she worked just as well, if not better, than before her first-up run,” Sheehan said.

“The whole preparation this time in has been smooth sailing.”

With Andrassy on the minimum 54kg on Saturday, Dwayne Dunn will ride with regular jockey Matthew Allen unable to make the weight.

Sheehan will saddle stablemate Windjammer in the Changing Places Real Estate Handicap and is expecting an improved performance from the gelding.

Previously prepared in Sydney by Bjorn Baker and Chris Waller, Windjammer has had six starts for Sheehan but is yet to trouble the judge.

“He’s came back in really good order after having surgery to remove chips off a fetlock,” Sheehan said.

“I’ve changed his gear a couple of times this preparation and I think that the Caulfield track, ridden with cover, will suit him.”
