Spieth resumed with an exciting win in the City Tattersalls Lightning at Randwick

PUNTERS are Randwick were forced to wait all day to see Spieth run, but it was worth the wait as the $3.30 favourite produced a stellar win in the Listed Tattersalls City Lightning.

There were concerns about whether the four-year-old would fire in a fresh state from the inside barrier and those fears were exemplified when it missed the jump, but it’s a horse with group ability and it gobbled up the opposition in amazing fashion.

Trainer Bryce Heys expressed his concern about receiving bad luck prior to the running, but jockey Jay Ford stayed patient and let the potential superstar find its feet. It did the rest by storming down the centre of the track to record its four consecutive win.

“I just thought perhaps being back there he’d have too much to do, I said to Jay ‘there will be galloping room along the fence, but be patient’. He held his nerve, waited, waited and waited,” Heys said.

“I was pretty happy with that to be honest. He’s got a nice race in him.”

Heys wasn’t giving anything away as to where Spieth will run next, but he’s got a plan and Saturday’s result confirmed that his runner has the star appeal.

“We’ve got a plan, but we’ll get him home,” Heys said. “Plan was to win here today, adds some commercial appeal. We’ll make the decision probably next weekend.”

The son of Thorn Park took its record to five wins from eight starts and it hasn’t suffered defeat since running 10th in the Group 1 Arrowfield behind Japonisme in April.

Sportsbet offered as much as $4 for Spieth prior to the race, but the late money came and it closed off as the $3.30 favourite. Kaepernick ran well for second and Le Cordon Bleu showed it has a solid future at this level.
