Snowden lines up spring targets for classy colt

PETER and Paul Snowden have another top two-year-old on their hands after Russian Revolution made it two-from-two in the Can Assist Volunteers 2YO Plate at Randwick on Saturday.

The Snitzel colt was heavily backed into $2.70 after opening as high as $3.60 at Sportsbet.com.au and it never looked in doubt after bouncing well and landing on the speed.

Jockey and likely apprentice premiership winner, Rory Hutchings, gave the colt an easy time in front and it kicked hard to record a two-length win in a quick soft-track time of 1:10.83.

“He does give me a good feel. He had a good draw to work with today,” Hutchings said. “He was able to hit the ground, pick up lengths quick. He’s had a soft time in front and been able to kick well off that.”

The Snowden stables are flying with their last-season two-year-olds and co-trainer Peter Snowden believes it’s good enough to contest quality races in the spring.

“The two-year-olds over the past few weeks have been well above average,” Snowden said. “He’s getting up there, coming right at the right time.

“He’s definitely a horse to follow, more upside to come from him. I think he’s definitely up to the better class horses.”

The $320,000 sales purchase was a winner on debut at Canterbury after being promoted and Snowden was pleased it could back that effort up after showing plenty in track work.

“Good to win fair and square today,” Snowden said. “Works really well at home and it’s good to see him bring that form to the races.”

Morton’s Fork flashed home late to finish second for John O’Shea with $51 chance Treviso fighting hard for third. The disappointing runs came from last start winner Conchita and Infra Dig with both failing to make any headway in the straight.
